2:00 pm: Cayuga County Devil Dogs of the First World War

Ms. Annette Amerman, a Cayuga County native and the head of the Historical Reference Branch at the Marine Corps History Division in Quantico, VA, will present a talk about the Marine Corps in the First World War with emphasis upon several of those who served from Cayuga County.
Her talk will feature Leonard Earl Rea, whose father owned and operated the L.L. Rea Tea Co. at 55 Genesee Street. Rea signed up for the Marine Corps 13 days after the U.S. declared war on Germany, and had a lifetime of service, earning the rank of Brigadier General.
This illustrated talk will be in the air conditioned Carriage House Theater. Admission is $5 general public, Museum members free.
Ms. Annette Amerman serves as the Series Historian for the History Divisions World War I Centennial Commemorative publications. Ms. Amerman joined the division in 1995 as a student intern from Shenandoah University, was later hired as a civilian clerk in 1996, and served in the branch as a research assistant for a year and a half. Ms. Amerman returned to the branch in 2003, where she managed the Lineage and Honors Program for the next 10 years, before being reassigned to duties dealing with requests from Headquarters Marine Corps, Congress, and other prominent offices. She was acting branch head from October 2015 to November 2017 when she was promoted to head of the branch.

6:00 pm: First Friday Artist Talk and Demonstration

Join Suzanne Gaffney Beason, our current Emerging Artist, for a brief discussion and demonstration of how she uses gel plates to create boldly colored one-of-a-kind works of art like the pieces currently on exhibit. Work alongside the artist and make your own monotype during this printmaking demonstration.
This event is free and will occur during our monthly First Friday event. The museum will be open from 5-8 pm and light refreshments will be served.
