Re-Opening Information

Hello one and all!

We are thrilled to say that your Cayuga Museum will officially be back from exile, starting on August 5 (with a Members Only Preview on August 4). We’re so excited to be back!

For the safety of our visitors and staff in this time, we are making the following changes to your Museum experience:

Capacity Limits

  • Admission to the Museum is by reservation only! We will welcome you with socially distanced open arms at the time of your reservation, with up to 20 individuals total allowed in the Museum during a two-hour block in the morning or afternoon (see new hours of operation for more details). Make sure to call ahead to make your reservation at 315-253-8051. Purchasing tickets for your party before your visit is highly encouraged, as the handling of credit cards or especially cash runs a high risk of potential contact between visitors and staff.

  • The Museum will never exceed more than 20 visitors in the museum at any one time. Museum staff will ask that you maintain social distancing in gallery spaces to ensure everyone’s safety.

  • A visit to the Case Research Laboratory (the birthplace of sound film!) is included in your admissions costs. A staff member will guide you to the laboratory at the appropriate time during your two-hour visit, and will be available on hand to answer any questions you may have about this major historic site!
    Capacity for the Laboratory is
10 visitors, and if museum participation exceeds 10 visitors we will divide the visiting group in half.

  • Elevator use is limited to 1 individual at a time by request (unless previous necessity for a partner is communicated beforehand).

New Hours of Operation

  • Open to the public Wednesday-Saturday, excluding relevant holidays.

  • Hours of operation will be organized in two blocks: 10-12 PM, and 1-3 PM. Please make your reservation in one of these block times.

  • Included in your reservation, the Case Research Laboratory will be open at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM and 2 PM.

  • MEMBERS ONLY HOURS! Cayuga Museum members will have exclusive access to the Museum every Tuesday, following the same schedule of operation. Click Here if you are interested in learning more about becoming a member!

  • Please note that any non-open hours are necessary for staff to clean the Museum to make the space ready for others. We always love it when visitors need more time to experience the globally relevant history and art found here, but must adhere to these structures to keep everyone safe and healthy!

Physical Distancing

  • Everyone is advised and encouraged by staff and signage to practice physical distancing by standing at least 6 feet away from individuals not in their party while moving around the Museum.

  • A clear acrylic shield is installed at our front desk where social distancing may be difficult.

  • Public programs will be held outdoors or virtually until further notice.

Personal Protective Equipment and Hygiene

  • All staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings that cover both mouth and nose upon arrival to the Museum and throughout their visit.

  • Disposable masks are available for free to anyone who needs one.

  • Hand sanitizer is available for guests at multiple points around the Museum.

Safety Protocols

  • The Cayuga Museum and Case Research Laboratory are not climate controlled. Fans will be placed in galleries to ensure consistent air flow, but summer months in the galleries will be hot. For the safety of visitors and staff, if outdoor temperatures are expected to exceed 90° Fahrenheit the Museum will close to the public for that day.

  • Door handles and all high-touch surfaces are sanitized at least once an hour, and the entire Museum is deep cleaned prior to opening each day. A 1 hour period from 12 to 1 PM will also be used to clean the space between visitor blocks.

  • Interactive and hands-on exhibits are not available at this time.

Employee and Visitor Health

  • All employees complete a health screening prior to starting their shift.

  • Employees who are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 or believe they have been in contact with someone who may have been exposed are required to work for home for two weeks.

  • Potential visitors who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or believe to have been in contact with someone who may have been exposed should not plan a visit to the Museum.

Thank you so much for your understanding! We look forward to seeing you soon!
