SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: "1825: Realizing America"
DESCRIPTION:1825: Realizing America will be the newest history exhibition on display at the Museum. The year 1825 saw the still young United States on the cusp of significant changes. The so called “era of good feelings” came to an end with the 1824 presidential election\, the completion of the Erie Canal would bring prosperity to canal towns and help spread new ideas and movements\, and General Lafayette’s tour of the U.S. called into question whether the nation was living up to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence. In 1825: Realizing America\, visitors will learn what Auburn looked like in 1825 and what the major events of the year meant for the country. \n1825: Realizing America will be on display until Saturday\, January 3\, 2026. \n

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: "How Did We Get Here?"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an opening reception for How Did We Get Here? An exhibition by Werner Sun displayed jointly at the Cayuga Museum and Schweinfurth Art Center.  \nThe work in this exhibition is drawn from three series that grew out of Sun’s fascination with how we perceive the world around us. Double Vision (in the Schweinfurth Art Center) features multi-panel pieces that evoke a fragmented experience of looking. Big Bang (at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art) channels pandemic-era anxiety through photographs of a glitching computer monitor. Rose Window (at the Cayuga Museum) is an extended improvisation on mathematical diagrams\, landscape photographs\, and calligraphic drawings/paintings\, where new pieces are generated from earlier works in the sequence. All three series are unified by a common visual vocabulary\, but they each project a different character — austere or agitated or organic — which speaks to the contrasting architectural styles of the Schweinfurth Art Center and the Cayuga Museum. \nThe reception will be held form 4:30 – 7:30 PM\, free admission and light refreshments will be served.  \nHow Did We Get Here? will be on display April 4 – May 17\, and Sun will present an artist talk on May 3 at 2 PM. \nLearn More
