John S. Clark (1823 – 1912) was a Cayuga County native who served on the staff of Union General Nathaniel Banks during the Civil War. He was Union Army Captain of Company G of the 19th New York Volunteers, and quickly rose to the rank of General.

Clark later served as the Auburn City Engineer. Clark’s book collection and militaria were purchased by Willard Case and donated to the Cayuga County Historical Society in the 19-teens.
