What’s In A Name?:
Why We Collect Signatures

Collecting signatures has been a hobby throughout history. Owning signatures of notable individuals was a sign of social status, while gathering signatures of personal acquaintances served as a record of interaction and a way to remember friends and family. Objects from the Cayuga Museum’s collection, including signature quilts, autographs, and yearbooks, demonstrate the many different modes of collecting signatures.

What’s In A Name?: Why We Collect Signatures is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts,  Fred M & Ora H. Everett Charitable Trust, the Greater Hudson Heritage Network, and 2026 Cayuga Museum Exhibitor Sponsors.
