About the Program

Join us for the Celebration of Sa:gwáyoˀ Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ/Cayuga People, We Returned from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the West End Arts Campus: Schweinfurth Art Center and Cayuga Museum of History & Art. The day will begin with the Ganǫ́hǫnyǫhk (Thanksgiving Address) given by Hoyá:neh Sam George (Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ/Cayuga, Bear Clan). 

Events include performances by Dan Hill (Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ/Cayuga); Chris Thomas (Onǫdagehónǫˀ/Onondaga) and the Smoke Dancers; a Zoom talk by Dan Longboat Roronhiakewen (Ganyę́gehó:nǫˀ /Mohawk); workshops by Bernadette Scott (Onǫdawáˀga:ˀ/Seneca) and Melissa Sprague-McCann (Onę́yotga:ˀ/Oneida); traditional Haudenosaunee foods by Rick Lazore (Onǫdagehónǫˀ/Onondaga) and Hazel Powless (Onǫdagehónǫˀ/Onondaga); and Hodinǫhsǫ́:nih/Haudenosaunee Arts & Crafts.

All events are FREE and open to the public. The exhibition is also open for free in both locations.

Accessibility & Parking


All buildings on the West End Arts Campus are wheelchair accessible, with elevators in the main buildings of the Schweinfurth Art Center & Cayuga Museum of History & Art. There are multiple reserved accessible spots across the campus immediately next to the main buildings. If you are someone who does not need accessible parking, we strongly encourage finding street parking or going directly to the overflow lot at 196 Genesee St. (Pettigrass Funeral Home) as we will prioritize our lots for individuals with accessibility needs.

Museum Exhibits

The Schweinfurth & Cayuga Museum will open at 10 AM. Both organizations will be open until 5 PM with the joint exhibit Sa:gwá yo’ Gayogohó:nǫ’ / Cayuga People, We Returned on display.


Ganǫ́hǫnyǫhk/Thanksgiving Address

Given by Hoyá:neh Sam George, Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ/Cayuga. Time TBD, will begin the day of programs so likely to begin around 10 – 10:30 AM.
