May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we’re recognizing the occasion with a series of special cultural activities. From 1-3 PM, join public historian Anneliese Meck for a unique living history pop-up which will explore the Chinese American experience in the fight for women’s suffrage. Throughout the day, you may join us in the Cayuga Museum’s classroom for a paper fan making activity, then explore the Museum with your family to complete a scavenger hunt and win a special prize. The Schweinfurth Art Center will not be offering activities this month.

This program engages with the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫˀ Reoccupation of their Homelands after the 1779 Sullivan-Clinton Invasion, the Treaty of Cayuga Ferry (1795), and Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫˀ Community Perspectives on the Treaty of 1795. Featuring talks and a discussion to follow with: Peter Whiteley — Curator of North American Ethnology and Curator-in-Charge of African and Pacific Ethnology; Professor at the Richard Gilder Graduate School, Kurt A. Jordan — Professor of Anthropology at Cornell University, Steve Henhawk — first-language Gayogohó:nǫˀ (Cayuga) speaker, historian, and faithkeeper who grew up on the Six Nations Reservation in Canada. The panel discussion will open with the Ganǫ́hǫnyǫhk (also known as the Thanksgiving Address, or the Words that Come Before All Else), given by Hoyá:neh Sam George (Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ/Cayuga, Bear Clan).

The Hands-On History Camp is back for its seventh year! The Cayuga Museum of History and Art, Seward House Museum , and the National Park Service welcome you to this fun camp for kids ages 8 – 10 as you explore Auburn and its history. Daily activities will include stop-motion film, a full Victorian tea party, walking tours of historic sites across Downtown Auburn, gardening, and so much more!

The C.A.S.E. (Culture, Art, Science, and Environment) Camp at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art is a youth camp that connects campers ages 12-14 with their community through the historical, natural, and cultural significance of the City of Auburn. Each day of camp will feature a different theme to explore, with partnering organizations joining on various days to dive into assorted topics.

The Skaneateles Festival in collaboration with Seymour Library and the Cayuga Museum of History & Art are proud to present an evening with the award winning Terra String Quartet. Winners of the 2025 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition and recent prizewinners at the 2025 Bordeaux and Wigmore Hall International Quartet Competitions, the Terra String Quartet is a vibrant young international ensemble based in New York City. They are composed of graduates of The Juilliard School, The New England Conservatory, Harvard University, and the Curtis Institute of Music. Known for their sincere storytelling, commitment to artistic excellence, and versatile approach to repertoire, TSQ strives to foster conversation and genuine human connection through their performances and pedagogy.

Disguising as a bandit, a detective infiltrates a group of train robberies while falling in love with the K and A railroad’s president’s daughter. Diana Riesman, founding director of the Wharton Studio Museum in Ithaca will join us in-person to introduce the film and lead a Q&A afterwards.
